hello i live in san francisco, ca. My father comes from Leitrim, Ireland. We had a family history done and was able to go back to the 1800's. From what I have been told is that there were two Mcshanley (Shanley) klans in Ireland.

Hi!
I may be related to the New York Shanley's... I'm a descendant of Shanley's living in NYC.
My father's name is John. He's got a sister Deloris and a brother Pat. My great-grandparents were immigrants from 'the mother country', but as I haven't spoken to any Shanley's since I was 8 (about 16 years ago), I really can't say much more than that.
I once asked some Irish people I met to see if they could find any remaining Shanley's in Ireland, but they said that they couldn't.
Is it possible that we've all come to America or does anyone have any ties remaining?
-Mike

Looking for Shanley relatives who originally came to the USA between 1846 and 1852 and settled in south central Massachusetts in or near Webster and Dudley. I have some information on descendants and relatives still in Ireland that I would like to share.

My great grand-father was from Boston. His names was John Henry Shanley. He ran away from home as a kid, and came to the Twin Cities, MN. He died in 1943.
His son was James Robert Shanley. He died of leukemia in 1973. He and his wife Evelyn had 12 children. Those 12 children had several children each, and those children also had children. Our family reunions are huge, and we have been spread all over the country.
My mother is Susan Elizabeth Shanley (Thorp). She went to Hill Murray High School in St. Paul, MN. She graduated in 1974.
We are related to Shanleys in Boston and Brooklyn, I believe.

I live in Salem, MA. My mother, who just passed away in Oct 2007, was a Shanley from Bethel, CT. Her father was Edward Shanley. Either he or his father were one of 7-8 brothers that came from Drumhshanbo, County Leitrim, Ireland. I have research that says most Shanleys came from Leitrim and Roscommon, and have occupied those areas since the 1100s. A couple of my cousins have purchased land in Drumshanbo, and hope to re-establish themselves there.

I live in the Boston area, and my father, Henry, was one of nine who grew up in Brighton, MA. His father, James, came to the U.S. from County Roscommon, Ireland, in the 1880s. I believe James had a brother, Thomas, who remained in Ireland, who may have been a police officer.

Although I do not carry Shanley as a last name, it is my first name. I am related to NY Shanley's, but I do not know who. I am curious of the correct family crest though, if anyone can e-mail it to me, I would be grateful.

My grandfather is Myles Shanley who is now in Edinburgh Scotland. His father was Henry Shanley who was married to Catherine McKey. I am looking for any family connection. Henry's father was Henry who came from Ireland. I do believe the area was Leitrim Ireland.
Please do not hesitate to write to my email address.
Any assistance would be wonderful.

Just chanced upon this site in my on-going attempt to locate some genealogy information about my husband's ancestors. We are trying to trace back and are stuck. If anyone has any information about Peter Shanley B: 6/24/1822 somewhere in Ireland and D: 3/28/1871 in Medina, NY or his wife, Bridget Hines B: 4/27/1826 in Ireland D: 7/22/1901 in Medina, NY. They were apparently married 10/15/1842 but we don't know where they were married, when they came to US and where in Ireland they were from. Any clues would be helpful as we are attempting to sleuth out something to trace the family back in Ireland.

My great-great grandmother, Mary Katherine Shanley, emigrated from athlone, Ireland, in the 1860s. She was 16 when she came. At least one brother (William) and 1-2 sisters had come ahead and had paid her passage. She came to Boston where brother william was (he was somehow connected with a shoe factory). She moved to Calif. to join her sister Bridget after a few years and eventually to Utah. I am looking for information about the Boston branch of the family. Is anyone descended from William Shanley? Thank you.

Hello I'm John Patrick Shanley, the writer of Moonstruck and Doubt and other things. My father's name was Nicholas and he was from Westmeath, near Killucan. The farm he was born on is still in the family. He was born there over 100 years ago. His father was a shed builder maker of furniture and came down from Leitrim. Carpentry skills seem to run in the family, though I inherited none. Shanley means the Old Hero.
