Discussion > More Shanleys

Hi,

We are a bunch of Shanley's from New South Wales in Australia. Our great great grandfather (Patrick Shanley) was sent over here from Ireland as a convict, and his brother went to USA around the same time. Where do you live?
Hello, As You probably know the name means 'old warrior' sean laoch. The family is from Dromod in Leitrim Ireland, The family is deccended from Farell of Annaly. Do you have details on Patrick Shanley and the reason he was transported to Oz?

Cathie; Good day, what was the name of your great great grandfather's brother? From what I have read of my "Shanley" family they were also from the Leitrim area. My great grandfather came to Boston in the late 1890's.

My name is Eileen Shanley. I am the granddaughter of James Shanley, who left Roscommon in the 1880s and settled in Brighton, MA. He came to Boston with Patric Shanley, who probably was a cousin, as they were born the same year. James married Mary McNally, and they had 9 children, one of which is my father Henry.

Eileen, I think you and I might be related. My great grandfather came to Brighton in the 1800's. I never knew much about his family. His son Vincent was my grandfather.

Joseph, I think you may be right. I wonder if Vincent's father was Patrick, who came to the U.S. with my grandfather, James. I do recall my father telling me that Vincent was related to him somehow, that their grandfathers were brothers, or something like that. Be glad to compare notes with you.
