The Real Reason Peter Thiel is in Argentina
Much hysterical nonsense has been written about Peter Thiel "fleeing" to Argentina to "escape" "nuclear Armageddon" "rogue AI" the "anti-christ," "the failing Trump administration", the "billionaire wealth tax".
These make for exciting headlines and enjoyable reads. How exciting! The anti-christ! Nuclear bunkers! The rat-line! The Pope! All the makings of a pulp summer read.
Which completely diverts us from the facts of this case into something suspiciously akin to entertainment.
It is no mystery why Peter Thiel is in Argentina. Thiel, and other venture capitalists, are engaged in a broad and aggressive expansion project throughout Latin America. Argentina is a key part of their position. And the president of Argentina, Javiar Milei, is "their guy." Because he is selling the country of Argentina to them for pennies.

Venture capitalists are bringing a PACKAGE into countries in Latin America and around the world, the wares of their technological development. This package includes crypto and crypto banks, weapons, private intelligence, surveillance platforms, nuclear energy platforms, mining companies and Network State colonies, and software for running the government. Among others.
Venture capitalists have a giant portfolio of companies addressing nearly all sectors of the economy, and sovereign nations are their monetization strategy.
Those investments need to be integrated -- or rather -- forced, into countries. The crypto financial system alone requires entire regulatory bodies of sovereign nations to be changed, something we have seen in the United States, where venture capitalists have gone to war with the Federal Reserve, Congress, the electoral system and "traditional" finance to force crypto on the country.
Milei's administration has seen significant economic "reforms", and specifically, economic shock therapy, "centered on sweeping austerity, subsidy removals, deregulation, and a sharp devaluation of the peso". He "took a chainsaw" to the government, and has cut 63,000 federal workers since he has been elected, a drop of over 18% in the government workforce. Notably, "Banco Nación, Argentina's largest state-owned bank, recorded 2,208 job losses during the period as the government expressed interest in a possible privatization." Milei has vowed to shut down Argentina's central bank, and while it is staggering along (as the US Federal Reserve now is), the central bank is taking steps to let Argentina's banks operate with crypto.
These are the events that prepare the economy and the country for the entry and dominance of the tech fascist element. The destruction of governments, their take-over by tech fascist-aligned politicians, is a wound in which to lower the venture capital package.
Liberal democracies as they exist, are both incredibly vulnerable to this attack, and also must undergo significant changes and ruptures to ultimately host the venture capitalists and allow them to start exploiting the country. By his own account, Milei has joined a new axis, or "new way of doing politics", that unites venture capital, Israel, El Salvador and any nation around the world with a politician willing to sell their country.
So it should not surprise you Peter Thiel is opening a bank in Argentina.
A bank is a weapon and a powerful one, especially in the hands of fascists. Nubank is a full-service bank including crypto services (naturally); as of writing, its market cap is over $63 billion. Most people don't know that Nubank is owned by Peter Thiel, which is troubling, because 60% of Brazil's adult population already uses it. After Brazil, Argentina has the highest rate of crypto adoption in Latin America.
Consider the market size here: Latin America has over 670 million people, and the GDP of Latin America and the Caribbean is over 8 trillion dollars. This is a key market for the crypto economic system, and venture capitalists would love to get as much of that money flowing through infrastructure and companies they own as possible.
Nubank is additionally funded by Sequoia, Joshua Kushner through his firm Thrive Capital, and Ribbit Capital, a crypto firm which has funded many household name crypto companies. Incidentally, these are figures at the heart of tech fascism, where we see Joshua Kushner playing a more discrete but possibly more impactful role than his showhorse brother; Joshua has been investing with the tech fascists for over 15 years now.
So this large financial institution -- Nubank -- owned by tech fascists has been sitting in Brazil since 2014. It has grown into a financial giant that is insinuating itself across the region. It has expanded and continued to grow into Mexico and Columbia -- which incidentally, are countries led by leftist administrations and named in Hondurasgate as a target of plots involving Milei, to undermine their governments. (We will return to this.)
What venture capitalists are trying to do in Latin America is transition all of its economy onto their own banks, exchanges, currencies and stablecoins, mortgages, loans and other financial products. This is a broad economic attack that requires them to attack existing financial institutions and compromise governments to pave the way.
For Peter Thiel, I assure you, getting the venture capital banks and exchanges and currencies hooked up all throughout Argentina and Latin America is much more pressing on his visit than escaping the anti-christ. Indeed, everywhere you go, there you are.
Certainly the capture of an entire country's economic system through venture capital banks is cause for a little visit down south; Argentina's transition onto venture capital-owned financial infrastructure surely offsets the business expenditure of a mansion where one can have one's entourage, secure comms center and large security team as one prepares to devour a sovereign nation.
Wouldn't you know that Peter Thiel has another BANK that is up to no good in Latin America; in this case -- Erebor Bank, in partnership with one of venture capital's most prolific serial killers, Palmer Luckey. Following the capture of Nicolás Maduro (using Palantir technology), Erebor is now trying to enter Venezuela to, ahem, "restore compliant financial connectivity" of the country.
Here, the greatest example of how the decapitation of a country's sovereignty provides the portal into its belly.
Peter Thiel has personal investments in every single aspect of the venture capital invasion: in crypto banks and stock exchanges, in mining companies, in datacenter companies, in private intelligence (Palantir), in policing and military startups. And he is joined in those investments by mega venture capital firms like Y Combinator, General Catalyst, and Andreessen Horowitz.
Argentina is in the middle of an AI transformation, and they are lining up the deals to do it. OpenAI's Stargate project made a deal with Argentina in late 2025, stating:
"Argentina has great potential to host the first Stargate project in Latin America. Powered by clean energy, this landmark infrastructure initiative would help position the country as a regional and global leader in artificial intelligence, driving economic growth and expanding opportunity across the country.
The project is being led by Sur Energy, building on productive discussions last week in Buenos Aires between President Milei, cabinet officials of his government, and an OpenAI delegation led by Chief Global Affairs Officer Chris Lehane. OpenAI and Sur Energy signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to explore a large-scale data center project in Argentina. Sur Energy would be the energy and infrastructure developer and lead the formation of a consortium, including partnering with a cloud infrastructure developer. Sur Energy plans to ensure that the data-center ecosystem is powered by secure, efficient, and sustainable sources. OpenAI welcomes the potential opportunity to become an offtaker.
Argentina is entering the AI era with real momentum. Millions of Argentinians use ChatGPT each week, with adoption more than tripling in the past year and highest among young adults (18–34). Argentina also ranks among the top Latin American countries for developers building on OpenAI’s tools: evidence of a country not just using AI, but shaping it. This momentum, paired with a growing developer ecosystem, makes Argentina a natural place to build the infrastructure that can unlock its full AI potential.

Peter Thiel, of course, is an investor in OpenAI.
It is a great challenge to outfit countries with the new suite of AI technologies. It requires large construction projects to build the data centers. It requires energy plants -- and hopefully by this point in our discussion it will not surprise you at all that Peter Thiel, along with the other venture capitalists, has huge investments in nuclear energy companies.
Consider Thiel-backed General Matter, which is enriching uranium and building the first privately-owned enrichment facility here in the United States. Correct, Argentina has uranium, and more than that, it used to have productive uranium mines, but production has been severely curtailed over the years by economic woe. Back in the day, Argentina was selling uranium and indeed was selling it to none other than Israel, was a critical supply chain to Israel's surreptitious nuclear weapons program, i.e. selling the genocidal abomination all the "yellow cake" it could swallow. Milei's regime has seen a jubilant revitalization of ties with Israel.
Nor does the fun end there. Venture capitalists have a mining company, Mariana Minerals, that is targeting uranium mining. This one funded by Andreessen Horowitz. You will find that the most consequential matters of tech fascism are a collaboration between these firms of Founders Fund and Andreessen Horowitz.
Milei's administration obediently seeks to re-open mining operations in Patagonia; an interesting read on that from The Guardian here: "The remote region sees few visitors, but in November [2025], a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency visited as part of an Integrated Uranium Production Cycle Review. Cerro Solo, adjacent to the shuttered mines, is one of CNEA’s largest proven uranium deposits, and restarting mining of the ore is the first step in Milei’s new nuclear plan. The others are to develop small modular reactors, use them to power AI datacentres, export reactors and uranium, and partially privatise Nucleoeléctrica, the state-owned nuclear energy utility....."
Peter Thiel is an investor, along with Sam Altman, in Oklo, which makes small modular reactors to power data centers.
Banks, crypto, mining, data centers, energy... and then there is the matter of Milei's work to "modernize" the intelligence and policing system of Argentina. Milei has created "the Artificial Intelligence Applied to Security Unit," which, per the Guardian, "will use 'machine-learning algorithms to analyse historical crime data to predict future crimes'. It is also expected to deploy facial recognition software to identify 'wanted persons', patrol social media, and analyse real-time security camera footage to detect suspicious activities."
This absolutely smacks of Palantir.
Last month, a series of recordings between Honduran officials implicated Milei in a plot to destabilize the leftist governments of Colombia and Mexico. In the recordings, Juan Orlando Hernández, narco trafficker and former president of Honduras, recently pardoned by Donald Trump, is heard speaking to the current president of Honduras, Nasry Asfura. The reporters behind Hondurasgate say:
"The audios obtained between Hernández, Nasry Asfura and Vice-President María Antonieta Mejía reveal the build-out of a communications team funded by Honduran public money and contributions from Javier Milei's government totalling more than half a million dollars. The objective: to 'hit the media' of Gustavo Petro's government in Colombia and Claudia Sheinbaum's in Mexico.
The operation is no accident. In 2025, Trump publicly accused Petro of being 'the leader of drug trafficking' and hinted at a possible ground intervention in Mexico to 'fight' the cartels. The Hondurasgate audios we publish today point to several Honduran political actors involved in these interference operations, arming and financing a team to produce disinformation alongside people close to Donald Trump. According to the recordings, financing for the operation also came from Javier Milei."
The relevant audio between Hernández, speaking to Asfura:
"We're going to set up a cell, Mr. President. From here, from the United States — informational, so they don't track us in Honduras. It'Il be a Latin-American news site. I was on a call with President Javier Milei and it went well. Very, very, very good. And I think at this point we can do big things for the whole region. There are dossiers coming against Mexico, dossiers coming against Colombia, and most importantly, against Honduras — in this case against the Zelaya family."
The Zelaya family refers to Manuel Zelaya and Xiomara Castro de Zelaya, husband and wife, leftists who both served as president of Honduras. It was Xiomara's regime that fought the Peter Thiel-funded, Network State colony of Próspera; she has been replaced by Asfura.
Common Dreams reporting on the matter:
"Governance in Honduras shifted sharply to the extreme right within months of National Party’s Nasry Asfura taking office on January 27, succeeding the Libre party’s progressive Xiomara Castro. In November 30 elections, the National Party was trailing a poor third before US President Donald Trump threatened to end all aid to Honduras unless Asfura won. Even then, Asfura had only a wafer-thin plurality, which might well have disappeared had the electoral council not broken its mandate by halting the count before all the votes had been tallied. Compounding this blatant interference, Trump announced just two days before the election that he was pardoning former Honduran President and National Party stalwart, Juan Orlando Hernández, who had been extradited to the US and was serving a 45-year sentence for narco-trafficking. Corporate media treated Trump’s pardon as just a typically blatant political maneuver. Yet they have since largely ignored what appears to be a much bigger element of the same plot."
The Hondurasgate leaks are evidence of Milei's involvement in a larger scheme to destabilize countries across Latin America, to sabotage leftist administrations and movements. Certainly one of the goals here is to make countries vulnerable to the venture capital attack; indeed, reporting from Criterio.hn shows that the Network State Próspera is expanding under Honduras’ new right-wing rule, after so many efforts had been made to expel it.
What we see in Peter Thiel's trip to Argentina, is not a matter of theology or ideology, but rather, evidence of the venture capital plot to infiltrate deeper and deeper into Latin America, requiring its destabilization to make way for their infrastructure and extraction.
Capitalism, not amateur theology, is the true culprit.
In this matter it makes no sense to focus on Peter Thiel as an individual; he is simply a high-ranking leader and financier of a new fascist power. And Latin America is its frontier.
Milei has betrayed the people of Argentina and sold their country to fascists.
Peter Thiel is simply attending his colony and preparing to open ground in it.
Here I want to be extremely fucking clear that it is not difficult to find records of everything I am saying, and beyond that, dozens more connections between Argentina and Peter Thiel, and the facts are as available to me as any journalist with a lick of competence or curiosity.
So one of the big questions here is why, despite LOADS of documentation being available about Peter Thiel's material interests in Argentina, publications as "reputable" as the New York Times, are getting away with reporting at the level of the National Examiner. This is not a time for hysteria, tabloid writing, and indulgence in fantasy.
It is also not a time in which the endless circle jerk about tech fascist ideology is relevant. Rather, it is about tech fascist takeover of a country: getting into its government, setting up a puppet head of state, and tapping into another rich source of cash, energy, minerals, labor; the country becoming the host for their policing, intelligence and military technology, and their colonies and colonial projects.
Peter Thiel's trip is about taking over the government of Argentina, turning it meek, servile and porous, then plunging the backbone of Palantir and crypto banks inside it, and ripping up Argentina's earth, and using Argentina as a tool to destabilize Latin America more generally.
They are not fleeing to Argentina. They are at war with it.
